Editorial design process
It was my privilege to work on the new design for Konrad Adenauer Stiftung foundation. The challenge; to give an attractive look and feel for the Paper edition series. Based on a previous publication, which had a conservative visual elements disposition. The criteria, to achieve the goal to attack more audience; consider the following phases.
The first stage, a new version of the logo “KAS Paper”. There was a requirement, preserving the original colours of the organization. Therefore, they choose the new version that portrays a modern strong and subtle tone that enhances the look of the new logo series.
Once the logo collection was approved, the next step was to enhance the editorial layout. The steps to enhance the publication recognize a visual hierarchy, based on the use of more imagery, typography, and special definite section, facilitating readers to identify different concepts, and enhancing the overall experience.
The second phase, a new cover with a new look and a different and more visual strategy. Targeting a younger audience to engages from the start. There is also a thoughtfulness regarding the serious topics embraced by this publication, therefore the concept should also have an executive glance to attract the specific audience.
The third stage, a new layout. The goal was to deliver a more vivid visual design, acknowledging how to approach a demanding audience with a modern functional design, which considered margins, headings, footers, typography as well as the hierarchy which helps to have a more enjoyable experience.
